Cover letter from Torrey Johnson to “Dear Co-Worker,” July 2, 1945. Part of a mass mailing that apparently went out to civic leaders and others who supported the YFC movement. It suggested they write to newspapers and magazines that had written positive pieces about YFC, encouraging those publications to continue to do so. Johnson also suggested the pastors defend the movement in response to the June 20 editorial which appeared in the magazine The Christian Century, which he considered “serious criticism.” From the Papers of Herbert J. Taylor, Collection 20, box 72, folder 2.

Copy of an editorial from The Christian Century, June 20, 1945. This copy of the editorial was mailed with Johnson’s letter described above. The lengthy editorial goes into some detail as to the movement's origins, organization, rallies and supporters and is generally negative or dubious in tone, while suggesting the existence of the movement points to a spiritual emptiness in the United States. From the Papers of Herbert J. Taylor, Collection 20, box 72, folder 2.
